Hurdles Cleared for construstion of Police HQ

Mumbai: The State government has approved modifications to the reservation status of the land in Mira Road, where the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has proposed the construction of the police headquarters. The move will lead towards upgradation of the existing law enforcing agency to the Commissionerate level.

A centrally-located plot in the Pleasant Park area of Mira Road earmarked by the MBMC to accommodate the headquarters of the much needed urban policing system was tagged for public amenities including secondary school and playground in the development plan, necessitating the civic administration to pass a resolution seeking government nod to modify the status of 11,895 square metre land in accordance to section 37(1) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act, 1966.

“With the government approving the modifications, decks have been cleared for constructing the much needed entity.” confirmed a senior MBMC officer. Keen on up-gradation chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had given an in-principle nod, while directing the MBMC to identify a suitable plot for the purpose and table a proposal after carrying out necessary modifications.  

A blend of urban, rural, coastal and industrial areas, the Mira-Bhayandar sub-divisions of the Thane (rural) has six police stations — Bhayandar, Navghar, Uttan, Mira Road, Kashimira and Naya Nagar under its belt. Spread on an area of 79.4 square kilometre.
