Mumbai: If there is one accused in the blast case who heaved a sigh of relief after the verdict on Friday, it is Abdul Qayyum Karim Shaikh. The special TADA court has acquitted Shaikh from all the charges which were leveled against him by the CBI. The court observed that the prosecution had failed to prove the charge of conspiracy slapped against Shaikh. The court said that evidence held is not credible and therefore did not find him guilty of any charges.

Special CBI lawyer Deepak Salvi told the media that after he receives copy of the judgment, the CBI will challenge his acquittal in Supreme Court.

According to the CBI, Shaikh was allegedly a close aide of main conspirators Dawood Ibrahim, Anis Ibrahim Kaskar and Mustafa Dossa. He allegedly helped them to materialise the plan which was hatched in India and Dubai in 1993.
