Kolkata: A Trinamul Congress activist was hacked to death over a suspected faction feud within the ruling party in South 24 Parganas on Saturday night. The victim, Sujauddin Molla (40), was a resident of Nishapur village in Mandirbazar.

At around 9.30 pm, a gang of five miscreants hurled bombs outside his home. But Sujauddin was not at home then.

Coming to know that he was at his relative’s place, the gang raided it and went on rampage. Sujauddin was kidnapped and was taken to a ground where his throat was slit by the miscreants who also chopped him. His relative Kashmira Bibi alleged, “The gang members first threatened to kill us after vandalising our house. Sujauddin was sleeping in a room. He was dragged out by the accused who are also Trinamul workers like Sujauddin.”

The body was recovered by the police from the ground. It has been sent for post-mortem. The victim’s family alleged that Trinamul booth president Abu Salma Dastidar was involved in the murder because he recently took control of three booth areas by force, which Sujauddin had protested. They also claimed there was a nexus between Abu and the police. A police picket has been posted in the village.
