Four civic hospitals to get CEOs for admin work
The officers appointed will be management, administration experts but not doctors.
Mumbai: All four major civic hospitals in Mumbai — KEM, Sion, Nair and Cooper hospitals will now get Chief Executive officers (CEO) to exclusively handle the administration work of the hospital dean. The decision was taken considering that maximum time of a hospital’s dean is consumed in meetings at BMC headquarters and hospital’s administrative work rather than concentrating on medical treatments in their hospitals.
The decision was taken by BMC commissioner Praveen Pardeshi recently to appoint the CEOs who will report to the hospital deans and later to the director. The CEOs will be attending all meetings at the headquarters. The officers appointed will be management, administration experts but not doctors.
Director of major BMC hospitals, Dr Ramesh Bharmal said, “The decision was taken considering that deans have to frequently visit headquarters for meetings which consumes a lot of time. Four separate CEOs will be appointed for four major civic hospitals that will attend all meetings, carry administrative works of the hospitals and report to the deans. The appointments will be on contract basis and advertisements will be given soon”.
The four BMC hospitals - KEM, Sion, Nair and Cooper see thousands of patients everyday from across the state. After the appointments of the CEOs, the deans can dedicate more time in hospital facility, medical treatments etc.
