Sunday night: 1 hit, 5 crashed
The police has registered a case under section 304(a) of the Indian Penal Code that pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the case.
Mumbai: In two separate cases of freak accidents late on Sunday night, one person has been reported dead at Mankhurd in a hit and run case, while at Nariman Point five cars dashed into each other, injuring three persons. The Marine drive police arrested the i20 car’s driver, while in the Mankhurd accident, the accused is yet to be traced.
In the first case, the hit and run incident took place late on Sunday at 10:30 pm near Sion Panvel Highway, when the unidentified deceased was crossing the road. The speeding car had come out of nowhere and had hit him, fatally injuring him. The police rushed him to a local civic hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The deceased is suspected to be in his early 30s and the process of identifying him is going on. The police has registered a case under section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code that pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the case.
In the second case, a car was found to be speeding in a rash way on Marine Drive late on Sunday night, around 2 am. Keshav Gupta (25), the man behind the wheels, saw a cyclist on the road and took a hurried right turn in a bid to save him. However, in the process, he dashed on to a taxi. The accident resulted in five cars, dashing into each other, with the taxi driver Kadir Ahmed Abu Bakhr Khan (53) sustaining a head injury after his head banged on the steering wheel.
The Marine Drive police has arrested Gupta and has booked him under section 279 and 337 of the Indian Penal Code that pertain to rash driving, along with other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. However, Gupta was released on bail on Monday morning.
