The high temperatures and rising humidity levels are likely to continue this week, says the IMD.

Mumbai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the city’s sweltering weather is expected to continue this week. Following the withdrawal of the monsoon, Mumbai is witnessing sultry weather due to the warm easterly winds and high humidity levels.

While the maximum temperature in the last 24 hours remained at 37.5 degrees, four degrees above the normal average for October, the minimum temperature was recorded at 23 degrees. “Due to the warm easterly winds prevalent in the city, the temperatures during the day have significantly risen.

The increasing humidity level has also led to uneasy weather conditions,” said an IMD official.

The maximum humidity level in the city was recorded at 82 per cent, more than four per cent above normal. As per the IMD, this week temperatures rose appreciably over the north Konkan region and no large change in temperature was seen elsewhere over the region.

Temperatures were appreciably above normal levels over north Konkan and south Konkan, Goa, south madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Kutch, and normal elsewhere over the region.

As per Skymet weather, a private weather forecasting agency, a trough is expected to develop over Konkan and Goa around October 19, which may trigger isolated thunderstorm activity or light rains on October 20 and 21.

“However, these weather activities will be highly localized and will not be witnessed over the entire state. Therefore, Mumbaikars have to face the warm, humid and uneasy weather conditions for some time.

In fact, the weather in the entire state has been dry for most part of October,” read the report by Skymet weather.
