Fire breaks out in army quarters in colaba

The fire brigade officials rushed to the spot and started fire fighting operations.

Mumbai: A fire broke out in one of the buildings of Army headquarters near Afghan Church at Colaba on Saturday evening. However it was quickly brought under control and there were no injuries, said fire officials.

According to fire officials, a fire erupted on  at around 7 pm in three-storey Asaaya building near the post office in the defence area of Colaba. The fire is said to have started from an office located on the second floor. The fire brigade officials rushed to the spot and started fire fighting operations.

"It was a level two fire, which was quickly brought under control within an hour. It was confined on second floor office rooms spread over 1500 sq ft area. Though there was smoke, no injuries have been reported. Damage  caused due to fire is being assessed," said a fire official.

As a standard procedure during fire fighting, electrical supplies to the affected area were cut off so that it doesn't spread any further in case it was caused by an electrical mishap, he added.
