Police seizes 167kg ganja worth Rs 33L

MUMBAI: The Mumbai police’s anti-narcotics cell (ANC) has seized a whopping 167 kilogrammes of ganja (cannabis) that is estimated to be worth Rs 33.40 lakh in the grey market from two persons, Tausif Khan (19) and Parveen Jafari (40), in Vikhroli for their alleged possession and intent to sell them.
The ANC’s Ghatkopar unit, which arrested the two people, has also seized a car, and made a total seizure worth Rs 36.40 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap near Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) near a bus stop, and arrested the duo, who had arrived in a Tata Tourist. When the police checked the car,they found three gunny bags 152kg of ganja from Khan, and 15kg of the drug was found from Jafari’s residence in Saki Naka.
The duo was arrested immediately under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Upon questioning the accused, the duo revealed that they worked and operated from Saki Naka, where Jafari stayed, while Khan, a resident of Palghar, targeted
youngsters.
ANC official and police inspector Shashank Shelke told The Asian Age, “We have arrested them and seized the drug as well as their vehicle, with a total seizure of around
Rs 36.40 lakh. We are now trying to get the location from where the drug was acquired to break the supply chain altogether.”
The drug bust has been going on from a long time to root out the from their dens and arrest them.
