Students furious as Mumbai University delays results of exams

Mumbai: Mumbai University students are facing trouble as their results are yet to come. This is applicable for the degree colleges, law and other courses. Majority of the students were furious not only because of the delay but also with the allegedly irresponsible behaviour of the MU officials.
Payu Tiwari, a 22-year-old BA (Psychology) student from Jai Hind College, Churchgate, who wants to purse Masters in Journalism from a university in Dublin is one such student.
She said, “The process for admissions at foreign universities is lengthy which is why I started preparing for MA in Journalism almost six months back.If the results came on time, I would have been part of the Dublin course already.” She has already paid Rs 1 lakh for the Dublin course but is yet to submit the required graduation mark sheet.
She got special concession from the Irish Embassy, as they are aware about the happenings of MU. Technically, the admission dates have already passed but the embassy made an exception for Payu and extended the dates for her. “I have been given one more week time, but the way things are going, I don’t really think the results would be out even by the end of August,” said Payu who is annoyed as she feels like she is going to lose the Rs 1 lakh because of MU’s glitch.
MU’s Registrar M. A. Khan said, “Because the fault is from our side, the students can get a letter from MU which can be submitted to their respective university abroad. Students can continue with their admission procedure and later submit their mark sheet once it is issued by us.” However, students are clueless about such a system of letter as their college never mentioned about it neither did the university.
For admission at any foreign university, a student has to fulfil certain formalities, which has a certain pay for it (depending on the university guidelines). Payu paid the security deposit, loan processing fees, medical insurance and visa fees that summed up to Rs 1 lakh. However, the admissions would only proceed if the student has their graduation mark sheet on hand.
The Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union (BUCTU), a teacher’s organisation supported the students and protested against university for its failure in assessing answer papers and declaring results as soon as possible.
