Seeking change in policies, teachers to write to PM Modi
Apart from this, they demand to have a special authority' and a separate national policy' which would have a constant eye on education.
Mumbai: Members of two teacher bodies, Maharashtra school teachers association and the Akhil Bhartiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh, will write a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday seeking changes in the education policies framed by the Centre.
Their key demands are related to an increase in budgetary allocations for education. “We want that 30 per cent of the budget to be spent on education, 10 per cent of the GDP to be spent on GDP to develop schools’ infrastructure,” said Anil Bornare, a teacher and the member of Maharashtra schoolteacher association.
Apart from this, they demand to have a ‘special authority’ and a separate ‘national policy’ which would have a constant eye on education. By the special authority, the organisation wants a clean workspace that would exclude any interference of any political group or any social group for no reason.
“We want the retirement age to be 65 as it can help the upcoming teachers to have a better knowledge from the experienced teachers,” said another member.
Right now, the retirement age of the teachers in Maharashtra is 58 and 60 in the other parts of the country. Along with this, they have asked to rectify the Sixth Pay Commission that is a pay scale for the central government and state government aided schools. According to them, it has certain technical errors that are creating confusion for the teachers while getting paid.
