Mumbai: Mumbai University (MU) law students are all set to protest the recent implementation of 60:40 examination patterns for them outside Ambedkar Bhavan on Tuesday. The students are unhappy with the move, and the varsity is allegedly turning a blind eye to their demands.

The Student Law Council, a students’ body at MU, is organising the protest. According to them, the varsity is on its way to privatise the esteemed law course. “After giving away control of evaluation, examination and revaluation to law colleges of the 3rd and 4th year BLS-LLB and 1st and 2nd LLB, by the university, they are now bringing an absolutely baseless pattern of 60:40. This way, they are making it more and more difficult for law students to have a happy academic life,” said a student.

According to students, written exams give a better chance to students to prove their abilities as compared to internal exams, which are more of “you get good marks if you have a better relationship with the concerned professor”.

The student said, “There are students who are good with the professor and they tend to get better marks due to their impression on the teacher. This should not be the case and it is very partial.”

From this academic year, law faculty exams will be conducted as per the 60:40 pattern, making it the only university in Maharashtra to follow this. Here, a student has to score at least 18 marks to pass in the written exam of 60 marks and 12 marks in the internal exam of 40 marks.
