Waste mgmt systems unveiled on e-way

The compost generated through the OWC is planned to be used as manure for plants along wayside amenities.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has shortlisted five contractors for the construction of two bridges at Thane creek.

Mumbai: Maharashtra State Road Development Ltd. (MSRDC), on Saturday, unveiled Organic Waste Converter (OWC) at Khalapur on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway (Mumbai- Pune Expressway). The MSRDC has planned seven such OWCs on the e-way.  

OWC system is used to convert the biodegradable solid waste into compost. The compost manure generated by the OWC can be used for campus soil conditioning.

Considering the future needs for waste disposal by large population for the next 20 years, the state body has designed the OWC facilities at seven spots, also Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) will be set up along the e-way.

Speaking on the occasion, MSRDC joint managing director Dr Chandrakant Pulkun-dwar said, “It is always our endeavor to offer environment friendly amenities on the highways and long distanced roads. The OWC inaugurated at the Mumbai Pune e-way are important milestones in the history of Pune Mumbai e-way as well as MSRDC. We are sure that with the launch of OWCs on the e-way, travelers at large are likely to be benefited and the waste management is addressed effectively.”
