Mumbai cops ban illegal arms, assembly

The Mumbai police has issued an order banning illegal assembly and carrying of illegal weapons ahead of the New Year.

Mumbai: The Mumbai police has issued an order banning illegal assembly and carrying of illegal weapons ahead of the New Year. The order will come into force from Monday and will extend into the new year.

The order has been issued in a bid to maintain the law and order situation and tranquillity during the festive season when heavy footfalls are expected outdoors, officials said.

The order banning illegal assembly will prohibit a gathering of five or more persons at a spot, including the use of a loudspeaker or similar instruments or carrying out a procession etc. However, it has exempted marriages, thread ceremonies, funerals, burials, meetings of companies at clubs or cooperative housing societies, cinema halls, government offices, educational institutes.
