Mumbai: Congress on Wednesday took a dig at actor Salman Khan, who has been acquitted by the district magistrate court of Jodhpur, Rajasthan from all charges in the 1998 Arms Act case. Congress’ national communication cell head Randeep Surjewala was in city for agitation against the Centre’s demonetisation decision but when asked about actor’s acquittal he didn’t miss an opportunity to taunt Mr Khan.

“Here, a person was killed under a car, but nobody know who was driving it. A black buck lost its life on its own, and nobody knows who had the bullets and who pulled the trigger,” said Mr Surjewala sarcastically. “All are same before the law. Be it an actor or the common man, all should be treated equally,” added Mr Surjewala. The politician, however, didn’t forget to mention, “As it is verdict by court, we do not wish to have any comment on it.”

Observers say that the Congress’ potshots at the superstar were made in light of the actor’s increasing closeness to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr Khan has been sharing a good relationship with the PM for quite some time. He had gone to Gandhinagar to participate in the Kite Festival in 2014, which was organised by Mr Modi, the then-chief minister. Later also, he met Mr Modi to invite him for his sister Arpita’s wedding ceremony.
