Two brothers drown in Powai pond; police registers ADR
Relatives told The Asian Age that Saddam had been allegedly behaving abnormally for the past one week, showing a suicidal tendency.
Mumbai: The Powai police have registered an accidental death report over the death of two Chandivali village-based brothers, property agent Saddam Shaikh (24) and auto-driver Aslam (27), who drowned in a lake at around 9.30 pm. According to the police, Saddam jumped to his death in the lake on Tuesday night due to unknown reasons after which Aslam and their brother Javed (32) dived in its water to rescue him but in vain.
While Javed was rescued by locals, fire brigade personnel fished out the bodies of Saddam and Aslam two hours later at 11.30 pm. Both Saddam and Aslam were declared brought dead by Rajawadi Hospital. The deceased brothers’ relatives told The Asian Age that Saddam had been allegedly behaving abnormally for the past one week, showing a suicidal tendency. The family members claimed that Saddam was allegedly “possessed by an evil spirit since a week” and was acting weirdly, with threats to jump off in the ‘Khadaan lake’. Fearing Saddam’s threats, his brothers Aslam and Javed were shadowing him for a week to prevent him from taking any extreme step.
On Tuesday night, Saddam excused himself out of the house on the pretext of going to the toilet, and jumped in the lake. Two other brothers, one sister and their mother survive Saddam and Aslam. According to a local, Rashmi Shinde, the Nahar Developers’ acquired the land of the lake. The locals also claimed, the developers have not deployed any security personnel near lake side, despite it being a suicide spot over time.
