Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that a strong partnership with Israel in the field of agriculture and technological knowhow would help in doubling the income of farmers in the state. While welcoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his first-ever visit to Mumbai, the CM said the number of initiatives taken by his government to alleviate stress in the agriculture sector would receive further boost with technological support from Israel.

The Chief Minister narrated how he was impressed with the kind of technology and agricultural practices followed in Israel during his visit in 2015. Mr Fadnavis said, “With the help of Israel, we will change the face of agriculture in India and in Maharashtra. With the help of Israel and technologies offered by them, we will surely double the income of our farmers.”

Both the leader signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create a water grid in the drought hit Marathwada region of the state. “Today we are signing a MoU to create a water grid in Marathwada to tackle drought. With experience and technology of Israel, we will be able to create one of the biggest and best water grids in the state of Maharashtra,” he added.

Highlighting the state’s business friendly reforms and its contribution to India’s gross domestic product (GDP), the CM requested Israeli firms to invest in Maharashtra. “Out of the total foreign direct investment (FDI) last year, Maharashtra accounted for 50 per cent. We account for 30 per cent of India’s total exports. So this is the right place to meet and forge alliances. I look forward to many such alliances.”
