Mumbai: The state government has ordered that Class 10 and 12 students of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) who participate in parades and other such activities on Republic Day will get an additional 10 marks.

Furthermore, divyang students will be provided stickers during the board exams this year in order to make the assessment process easy.

“The state government’s order has been given to all schools in Maharashtra,” a senior official at the MSBSHSE, Mumbai Division told this newspaper.

According to the government resolution (GR), the move is to increase participation of students in National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Scout Guide events. Such students will get 10-20 marks additional for participation.

Through this new sche-me, the board will be giving bonus marks for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher School Certificate (HSC). Also, medal winners and those participating in the International Youth Exchange program-mes will be granted 15 and 20 marks, respectively.

Meanwhile, like earlier, students participating in national and international sporting events will continue to get 25 marks.

Talking about the divyang stickers, the official said, “As per the Rights of Person with Disabilities Act, 2016, education institutes are obliged to give concession to the students with special needs. MSBSHSE has a special marking scheme for divyang st-udents. However, while assessing papers, teachers fail to differentiate between answer papers. Papers with these stickers will be assessed and evaluated separately, considering the concessions as per the aforesaid right.”

Starting this year, SSC students won’t be having internal assessments for subjects except for Mathematics and Science. The same will be applicable for divyang students.
