The MMRDA is the special planning authority (SPA) of this project and aims to revamp the place into a transport hub.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is considering asking Tata Power officials to increase the height of their transmission towers at Chembur, where the Metro 4 (Wadala-Kasarwadavali) line will be passing at the same height as them. There are two towers near the Amar Mahal Junction with high intensity power cables, which would collide with that of Metro 4.  “We have conducted meetings and discussion with the Tata authorities and they will most likely increase the height of the tower so that the Metro will pass smoothly beneath it.  There are two towers on either side of the junction, which needs to be extended by two metres,” said a MMRDA official.

According to the reports, the elevation was denied by the aviation ministry due to height restrictions in areas near the airport. Initially, the authorities were planning to accommodate the wires underground, however, this would have escalated the cost by Rs 200 crore and hence the plan was dropped.
