Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) slammed the Devendra Fadnavis-led state government on the farmer’s suicide issue. NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik alleged that the loan waiver scheme has failed despite various claims to the contrary by the government. He said that farmers were still committing suicides as they are burdened by loans, proving the fact that loan waiver benefits have not reached them.

Mr Malik alleged that three farmers have committed suicide in last 24 hours. Yavatmal farmer Madhav Raote committed suicide after arranging his own funeral pyre. Raote had loans to repay and his cotton crop had suffered due to pink bollworm infection.”

He flayed the government’s claims about the Rs 34,000 crore loan waiver scheme and said the BJP government was only making announcements as the money has not reached farmers. The government released Rs 14,000 crore. But why are suicides still going on if they have received benefits of the waiver.
