Mumbai braces for hotter weekend

Mumbai: Mumbai is likely to witness uneasy hot and humid weather in the next two days with an increase in day temperature, according to weathermen.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that temperature across Maharashtra is expected to rise from May 19.  The IMD has also stated that the hot weather in Mumbai Metropolitan Region may increase between 18 May and 21 May.

“Places like Vidarbha and Marathwada would witness significant increase in temperature. The dry hot winds in these regions are likely to prevail till May 29,” said an IMD official.

According to Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency, most parts of Maharashtra are observing warmer westerly-northwesterly winds, leading to increase in mercury levels. At present, a trough is extending from Chhattisgarh to South Peninsula across Vidarbha.

“The coastal stations will face humid conditions during afternoon hours while comfortable conditions are likely to prevail during evening. Cities like Mumbai will see an uneasy humid afternoon. However, moderate breeze will change the atmosphere by evening, bringing in some comfort,” read the report by Skymet weather.

During the last 24 hours since Friday, Mumbai recorded maximum temperature at 33.9 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 25.5 degrees. Meanwhile Mumbai recorded more humid conditions with humidity levels at 91 per cent.

The weathermen have highlighted that mercury level in Vidarbha region is already above normal by 2 to 3 degree Celsius and is likely to remain the same or might even increase marginally over the next 24 hours, according to Skymet Weather.
