Now portals, swipe cards to mark attendance in schools

Mumbai: Following a circular issued by the state government related to attendance, city schools have upgraded their attendance system. While some have created a portal where presence and absence of each child is registered and parents are kept in the loop, others have introduced electronic attendance where students are given identity cards to swipe so as to mark attendance.

Talking to The Asian Age, Anjali Bowen, principal of Ryan International School, Kandivali, said, “We do not have a swipe card for each student. Instead, we have a portal where teachers of each classroom register the roll number or name of the absent student. By doing this, a text message is sent to such students simultaneously. As a principal, I also get updates on my database. Each student has a unique id and login password from which parents can check his/her attendance, assignments, homework etc.”

Some schools like Activity High School, Peddar Road, have even initiated a “call the parent” format, especially for students from class eight  to class 10.

Apart from this, a couple of schools have initiated ‘swipe cards’ for the students or have inserted unique barcode in the identity card that is used to mark attendance.
