2 bodies wash ashore Juhu, Versova beaches
Identities of deceased man, woman unknown.
Mumbai: In two separate incidents, two bodies washed ashore the Juhu and Versova beaches Tuesday. While the police is probing for foul play, the victims are suspected to have drowned at sea.
At around 7.55 am Tuesday, lifeguards at Juhu beach spotted a motionless man at the Silver beach end near the Godrej bungalow. Upon checking, they found he was dead and his body had bloated. The local police was informed about the incident, and the unidentified body was shifted to a nearby hospital. The police is trying to identify the deceased man and checking for foul play, if any. Officials are also recording the lifeguards’ statement for possible leads.
In the second instance, the body of an unidentified woman was found at around 10.45 am near the Nana Nani park, Versova beach, by cleaning personnel posted there. The woman had not been washed ashore due to which lifeguards had to venture into the sea to get her body out. Here too, the body had bloated and the fire brigade and police were informed about the same.
The detailed autopsy report of the woman is awaited to ascertain whether there was any foul play. The lifeguards posted at both beaches are employees of Drishti Lifesaving Pvt. Ltd., hired by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for ensuring beach safety.
A police officer said, “We suspect the man and woman were washed away by the sea. However, if the autopsy reports indicate otherwise, we will register a case.”
For now, the police has filed two separate accidental death reports in connection with the incidents. The description of the deceased persons along with their photographs has been circulated to all police stations to find out if it matches with any mis-sing person’s complaint.
