BMC's water pipeline to go underground for car shed
The pipeline, which measures 1,200 mm in diameter, will be diverted outside the car shed plot and will further run underground.
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corpo-ration’s (BMC) over-ground water pipeline at Goregaon’s Aarey colony will be diverted from its current location, where Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL)’s car-shed project, as part of its Metro-3 project, will come up. The pipeline, which measures 1,200 mm in diameter, will be diverted outside the car shed plot and will further run underground.
“The diversion work for the pipeline will begin post monsoon and the work will be carried out by the BMC. The new pipeline will be laid simultaneously with the diversion work so that the water supply is not affected in the area,” said senior MMRCL official. The BMC’s hydraulic department confirmed this and said that the plan is in a very primary stage right now and the needful will be done once all formalities are sought.
Along with the pipeline, the authority will also have to shift the Reliance power cables as it’s interrupting with the metro’s power cables. These cables may go underground, confirmed a senior official from the MMRC.
However, the activists alleged that the MMRC do not have the required permissions to carry out any work at the Aarey land until the National Green Tribunal lifts the stay. According to the activists, the NGT had ordered a stay two weeks ago.
The contract for the car depot was awarded to a Delhi based company- M/s. Sam Builtwell Pvt. Ltd last month. The civil work for the depot is expected to be completed in the next two-and-a-half years.
