The court directed the corporation to cooperate with the investigating agency and asked EOW to file its reply within four weeks.
Mumbai: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has sought three more months to investigate the pothole and de-silting scam of BMC and said that it still has some evidence which needs to be corroborated.
The issue of fixing responsibility was raised by the petitioner to which the civic body responded saying that it was inquiring into the role of various officers. The court directed the corporation to cooperate with the investigating agency and asked EOW to file its reply within four weeks.
A division bench of justices R.M. Savant and S.S. Jadhav was hearing a criminal public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Vivekanand Gupta against the de-silting and pothole scam. Pointing to relevant paragraphs of the special investigation team (SIT) report filed by
Mumbai police, advocate Sushant Chavan on behalf of the petitioner informed the court that there was no circular or order fixing responsibility of pothole-ridden roads on any BMC official or engineer due to which when the trial began, officers would be let off
scot-free.
