Doc accused of rape takes commission's help
The doctor had alleged that the victim had lodged the case to extort money from him.
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) has directed the Mumbai police commissioner to look into the complaints of a doctor accused in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case, wherein he was accused of raping a minor girl by threatening to expose her photographs which he had allegedly clicked when she visited him for treatment in 2014. However, the doctor had alleged that the victim had lodged the case to extort money from him. But after the police refused to entertain his claims and the magistrate court also rejected his application, the doctor approached the MSHRC, which took cognisance of the arbitrary attitude of the police and passed the order.
In his application to the MSHRC, the doctor informed the member judge M.A. Sayeed of the arbitrary way in which the police had dealt with his complaint. He further added that the magistrate court had also refused to hear his side of receiving extortion threats from the victim as the police had registered the rape complaint against him.
The commission took cognisance of the fact and directed the CP, Mumbai to call on the record of the current matter along with relevant orders and to look into the matter.
