Mumbai: Along with extension for bookings, the housing authority has announced an extension for making payments for the lottery. The MHADA has extended the date for the lottery registrations from October 21 to October 23.

The date for making payments has been pushed from October 24 to October 26. The changes are made due to continuous bank holidays on the occasion of Diwali. The authority is also expecting that people will make use of the extension and register themselves.

“We are giving more time for the people so that they can book the lottery and make payments with ease. In turn to which we can also expect a spike in the registerations,” said Subhash Lakhe, Chief Officer, Mumbai Board. The Asian Age had reported in its October 16 edition about the low turn out of registrations the authority has received this year.

As of October 17, Mhada has received 49,427 registrations and 48,275 online applications. Last year, the authority had received 1.65 lakh applications for 972 homes in lottery.

“Since it is Diwali and a long weekend, people plan to move to their home towns and out of the city. So the time extension will help them to register for the lottery. Of the 819 homes, eight flats are for less income groups, 192 flats are for low-income groups, 281 flats for medium-income groups etc.

The lottery will be announced on November 10. The lottery draw will be held at Rangsharda Auditorium in Bandra Reclamation area. The flats are located in areas like Sion, Mankhurd, Kandivali, , Charkop, Lower Parel, Powai, Tunga etc.
