Land survey for Mumbai-Nagpur E-way on Monday
The state corporation is facing opposition from farmers over handing their land.
Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) along with land survey officers and collectors from around 21 districts of the state will undertake a joint land survey starting Monday to identify accurate land requirement for the execution of the 706-km-long Mumbai-Nagpur Super Expressway project.
MSRDC aims to complete the land survey in around three months and float bids for the project by February. According to initial plans, MSRDC will give work orders for the project by May next year. The state corporation is facing opposition from farmers over handing their land. The state government requires around 20,000 hectares of land for the Expressway. Radheshyam Moplawar, managing director, MSRDC, said, “We are doing the exercise of joint land survey as various agencies are involved and we need to gauge the demand of land for the project. The joint land survey will be completed in three months where three teams will be deployed for around 21 districts from the Expressway is passing.”
He said, “Subsequently, if things go according to plan work orders can be issued in May 2017, after which we can say the civil construction of the Expressway will take 28 months.”
Out of 20,000 hectares required for the construction of Expressway, between Bhiwandi and Nagpur around 84 per cent of the land is agricultural land, 13 per cent fallow land and 1.92 per cent forest land. The corridor will pass through 350 villages from 27 talukas where non-cultivable landowners will get developed plot of 25 per cent of the area given up by them. For those having irrigated or cultivable land, it will be 30 per cent of the land given up.
The state government has also roped in communication experts who are visiting villages to get consent from villagers to give up their land. Other than the land pooling model, the state government will also acquire land under the land acquisition Act, 2013 where one-time monetary compensation is paid.
The MSRDC is currently in the process of preparing the detailed project report for the project. Deadline for the E-way is 2019. It is expected to reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to 10 hours from the current 15-17 hours.
