Police arrest man possessing illegal firearm
The Mumbra police claimed to have averted a shootout and arrested a person in alleged possession of illegal firearms from Diva.
Mumbai: The Mumbra police claimed to have averted a shootout and arrested a person in alleged possession of illegal firearms from Diva. The officials said that the accused was in possession of a country-made firearm that was tucked under his shirt. The accused was nabbed from outside a wine shop and the police suspect that the accused and his accomplice, who was arrested later, were planning to target a wine shop.
The accused was identified as Tulsiram Wadkar (33), a resident of Mahad in Raigad. The officials said that Wadkar was planning to fire at and loot the wine shop when the police was informed about the presence of a man with a firearm. A team rushed to the spot and apprehended him in the nick of the time.
“Wadkar was questioned by the Mumbra police, and he revealed that one of his acquaintances, Rajendra Satam, also a resident of Mahad, had a 12-firearm along with 12 rounds,” said an officer of Mumbra police. Working with the details provided by Wadkar the police managed to arrest Satam from his house.
The police searched Wakar’s residence at Mahad and found more firearms including a country-made pistol, two rifles and live rounds in his possession. The accused have been arrested for possessing illegal firearms and the police is yet to verify the purpose of possessing these weapons.
The investigators have got custody of Wadkar and Satam to identify the source of the seized weapons. A case has been registered under sections of the Arms Act and the IPC and further investigation is underway to find if the duo had used the weapons in the past.
