Mumbai: Youth arrested for assaulting four policemen

Mumbai: The Saki Naka police arrested a 30-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly assaulting four policemen, including an assistant police inspector, after they confronted him when was found moving about suspiciously on a street. The police later found out that the accused, Irshad Khan, was involved in 15-odd robbery cases and was out on bail when the incident had occurred.
On being asked why he was roaming on Jangaleshwar Mandir Road at 2 am on Saturday, the accused flew in a rage and attempted to hit the policemen with an iron rod, injuring one of them. The incident is the fourth case of policemen getting attacked in the past fortnight. Khan was produced in an Andheri court on Saturday, where he was remanded in judicial custody.
According to the police officials, Irshad is a repeat offender and he has as many as 15 cases of robbery registered against him. Recently he was released on bail by the court after the police arrested him for his alleged involvement in robbery.
According to the police officials, Uttam Pawar, a resident of Saki Naka, is as of now posted as a constable in the Saki Naka police station. On Friday night he along with two police constables and an officer were on night patrol when suddenly these officers saw Irshad roaming near Jangaleshwar Mandir road, in a suspicious condition so they approached him. Irshad then started abusing the policemen.
“He suddenly picked up an iron rod which was lying nearby and started threatening our officials and saying that he would harm himself,” said a senior official attached with the Saki Naka police station.
Earlier, around 8.30 pm on December 16 film producer Feroz Nadiadwalla's wife’s bodyguard Noor Khan assaulted on-duty traffic constable Patil after the latter pulled him up for disrupting the traffic, instructing him to move aside.
A day earlier, inspector Rajiv Vhaval was assaulted during a badobast at Bandra-Kurla Complex; and a day prior, constable Swapnil Patil, attached with the Vakola police station, was assaulted by four drunken youths.
