Mumbai University seeks to allay fears of results delay
Apart from commerce, the law and technology faculties have the highest number of papers remaining to be assessed.
Mumbai: The Mumbai University (MU) on Friday announced that all results of the winter examination conducted in the months of October-November, 2017, will be declared as per Maharashtra Public University Act guidelines. As per the act, results have to be declared in 30 to 45 days from the day of the examination. The assurance from the varsity comes to allay concerns among students who are worried that results may be delayed like the summer examination results that were delayed by nearly four months. MU officials confirmed that as of date, 273 results have been declared out of the 402 winter examinations conducted.
A total 376,686 students pursuing various courses and streams appeared for the winter exams. A total 1,407,035 answer papers were assessed by the MU out of which the university is still to evaluate 357,532 papers.
Dr. Arjun Ghatule, director and controller of the Board of Examinations, said, “We have completed assessment and evaluation of 75 per cent answer papers as there are more or less around 12,000 teachers on duty. As a successful figure, we have managed to complete assessment of nearly 60 per cent answer papers of the commerce faculty.” Dr Ghatule said that during the summer exams last year, a majority of B.Com. results were pending as there is a large number of students appearing for this examination.
Apart from commerce, the law and technology faculties have the highest number of papers remaining to be assessed. Law has more than 33,335 answer papers left out of 48,943 papers, whereas technology has 26,706 answer papers pending out of 299,884. In the commerce stream, 216,148 out of 653,735 answer papers remain to be assessed. The MU said that this year, the online assessment system was not facing any kind of technical errors unlike last year which is why the process was running smoothly.
