Mumbai: Finance and forest minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that he has requested the CM to shift the Nanar refinery project to the Chandrapur area. But the CM denied the suggestion, saying that Chandrapur did not have a coastal area. On Monday, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and the CM together agreed that the Nanar project would be located in a district where the locals had no problems with the project. The Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals (RRPCL), the joint venture executing the project, had also said that they needed coastal land for this project. And if the government was making such land available for them at another location, they were happy about it.

After the Jaitapur Nuclear Power Project, locals from the Konkan region strongly opposed the Nanar refinery project. “On Monday during the meeting, I have requested the CM to shift the Nanar project to the Chandrapur district. The CM did not accept the same, saying that a refinery project needed water and a coastal belt. The government will relocate the project where locals do not have any objection,” said the finance minister.

Mungatiwar was speaking to the press at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) after an inaugural session. He was at the BSE for the Bamboo Investment summit. Mungantiwar also mentioned that Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had said that the Sena would not oppose the Nanar project where locals did not have any objection to it.

“We were saying since the past four years that the Sena and BJP should have an alliance. Also it is public opinion” said Mungant-iwar. He also slammed the Congress-NCP government saying that they had not car-ried out any development  in their 15 years’ tenure.
