Raju Shetti joins UPA, meets Rahul Gandhi
For the last six months, Mr Shetti has been targeting the government on a range of issues, and agricultural distress in particular.
Mumbai: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) leader Raju Shetti joined the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in Delhi on Monday. He met Congress president Rahul Gandhi along with Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan in New Delhi.
Mr Shetti said, “BJP has cheated farmers of India. I had joined Nationalist Democratic Alliance (NDA) because Mr Modi had promised about implementation of Swaminathan commission among many other things. Forget about keeping the word, they slashed the rates of all crops. Therefore, being a farmers’ leader I will make sure this party doesn’t return to power.”
Mr Shetti had parted ways from BJP-led NDA in last October. He had also joined the ‘Save Constitution’ rally with Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and other political parties on January 26. For the last six months, Mr Shetti has been targeting the government on a range of issues, and agricultural distress in particular.
