Truck topples, kills four in Vikhroli
The police said that the truck lost control allegedly while navigating a stretch where construction work of manhole is ongoing.
Mumbai: Four persons died on the spot while one other sustained severe injuries after a truck lost control and toppled at Vikhroli on Thursday night.
The police said that the truck lost control allegedly while navigating a stretch where construction work of manhole is ongoing. The manhole was not covered properly and hence the truck allegedly lost control, as one of its tyres went into it, they added.
The accident took place at around 11.45 pm at Surya Nagar, soon after which the truck driver was arrested. The police said that the accused was driving a ration truck and navigating the stretch at a high speed.
“The victims were standing on the road at a distance,” said Akhilesh Kumar Singh, deputy commissioner of police.
The officials identified the deceased as Chandrashekar (40), Abdul Shaikh (42), Ashwin Hiware (32) and Vishal (22). The injured bystander was id-entified as Chand Shai-kh, who is being treated at the Rajawadi Hospital. The police are recording the statements of eyewitnesses and scanning CCTV footage of the spot.
The Parksite police has registered a case of rash driving and death due to negligence against the driver and his medical test reports are awaited to ascertain if he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
