Mumbai: A Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus conductor died after a branch fell on his head while he was resting under a mango tree on Friday morning.

The incident took place at Charkop’s Thackeray Nagar bus station around 7.55 am. The police has registered an accidental death report (ADR).

The deceased driver, Sumit Wagh, 39, was on duty at the time of incident. Wagh was attached with the Gorai depot of BEST and was driving a bus on route number 245, officials said.

On Friday morning, Wagh was taking a break and was resting under the mango tree, when one of the branches fell on him. He sustained severe injuries in the incident, and his fellow colleagues rushed Wagh to Saraswati Nursing Home. However, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

“Wagh sustained serious injuries in the incident and bled profusely which led to the death. We are getting details if the tree was required to be chopped and if there was any specific complaint regarding the same was overlooked,” said an officer of Charkop police station.

The police has registered ADR and will file a case if they find negligence.
