State board to make their exams easier
Some of the measures include splitting maths into general and higher maths as well as making language papers more objective than subjective.
Mumbai: Even as the HC on Monday directed the officials of boards other than the state board to explore ways to make appearing for exams easy and curbing student drop out rate, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has already taken a lead in this direction and devised ways to make education less cumbersome for its students.
Some of the measures include splitting maths into general and higher maths as well as making language papers more objective than subjective.
According to state board officials, after it had come to light that the failure rate among students appearing for the SSC exams was high due to mathematics and language, the school education department had come up with a solution to address the problem by introducing options.
“Students in urban and rural areas faced a huge problem in mathematics hence they were given the option of opting for general maths. As mathematics is the basis for pursuing engineering studies, those opting for general maths were barred from taking up engineering,” said J.M. Abhyankar, former cha-irman of the MSBSHSE. “As medical education does not require maths, students opting for general maths are permitted to pursue medical education,” he said.
