According to their guidelines, with the introduction of this list, the student would get a chance of deciding 10 colleges of their preference.

Mumbai: While the second list for admissions to FYJC courses will come on Thursday, around 60 per cent seats at the tier-1 top colleges have already been taken according to their authorities.

According to some principals of city colleges, the reason behind lack of seats in the top colleges is because of the ‘preference list’, which the department introduced for the academic year 2017-18. According to their guidelines, with the introduction of
this list, the student would get a chance of deciding 10 colleges of their preference.

“Immediately after the first merit list, most of the students whose name showed up took admission in the Commerce and Arts stream. Now we are only left with 30-40 per cent seats and there are more three lists to show up,” said Suhas Pednekar, Principal of Ramnarain Ruia College, Matunga.

“If by the second list all our seats are full, we would not put up any other list,” Pednekar confirmed.

This is not the situation only with Ruia, colleges like Jai Hind and HR College in Churchgate, Ruparel College in Matunga, Nationals in Bandra, St. Xavier’s in Fort and Narsee Monjee College in Vile Parle are some of the other colleges are going through the same trouble.

Pednekar also said, “The second list will throw open around 30 more seats and the seats we are left is only 30-35 in the general category.

If this is the case and if the applications we would get is 100, then how is it possible to allot the students?”
