8 snake bite cases in Sangli after floods
Following the floods, snakes have been found in houses, water tanks etc. Most of these snakes are poisonous.
Mumbai: In the wake of floods, the Sangli district has witnessed eight incidents of snake bite and 40 of dog bite. All cases have been registered with the Sangli Civil Hospital.
“Following the floods, snakes have been found in houses, water tanks etc. Most of these snakes are poisonous. We are telling people they should take precautionary measures and consult a doctor in the event of a snake bite,” Dr Subodh Ugavane of Sangli Civil Hospital said.
Dr Pallavi Sapale, dean of Miraj medical college said that different kinds of snakes and insects have started emerging from their hiding places in the aftemath of the floods.
She added that eight cases of snake bite have been recorded so far. Some patients have been discharged while some are recuperating in hospital, she said.
“I got bitten by a snake when I was cleaning my house. The reptile was hiding beneath the sofa and as I began cleaning, it attacked me in a fraction of a second,” Baji Jadhav, a 47-year-old snake bite victim, said.
