Mumbai: A five-year-old girl, Manvi Ingle, died after falling from the 3.5-foot-tall balcony of her family’s 15th floor flat located in a Byculla building on Monday morning. The police has registered a case of murder against unknown persons and is still determining the identity of the person who may have thrown the girl.

The girl’s mother works with Mumbai traffic police’s Worli division. Since the balcony stood 3.5-foot-tall, which is greater than the height of the deceased, the police suspect that the girl was thrown out of the balcony by somebody, as revealed a senior police source. The police is grilling a few neighbours of the family for clues to the alleged murder, the source said.

The incident occurred around 10.30am on Monday when the deceased’s father was at home but unaware about the fall. “The flat’s door was open, the father was looking for the daughter for around two hours as he found her missing and only later, peeked down from the balcony where he saw her lying in a pool of blood,” said the source. According to DCP, zone 3, Pravin Padwal, “We have registered the offence of murder under IPC 302 at Byculla police station; we are questioning neighours and our investigation still underway.”
