Three arrested for attack on web series cast, crew

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) engineers are up in arms against the administration for making them scapegoats in the Himalaya Bridge collapse incident.

Mumbai: Three persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the attack on the cast and crew of ALT Balaji’s web series, “Fixer” in Thane. On Tuesday, crew members were assaulted by local goons and obstructed from shooting. The victims even alleged that despite complaining on the number 100 (emergency police number), the police did not interfere which is why they decided against registering a complaint at the local police station.

Some team members of the web series also met Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who assured that strict action would be taken against the culprits.

According to a police official, there was a dispute over selection of a spot for the shoot following which some men attacked the show's crew members while they were shooting at a set located on Ghodbunder Road in Thane Tuesday.

Later, the show's assistant director lodged a complaint following which three men - Krishna Sonar, Sonu Das and Suraj Gupta - were arrested Wednesday, said K. Khairnar, senior inspector, Kasarvadavali police station.

The accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 143 (unlawful assembly) as well as other relevant provisions, he said.

Filmmaker-actor Tigmanshu Dhulia, who features in the series, shared a video where the show’s producer Sakett Saawhney and actor Mahie Gill alleged that they were beaten up by drunk goons.

Meanwhile, the show's director Soham Shah, Gill, and other cast and crew along with filmmaker Ashoke Pandit met Mr Fadnavis in the state Legislature about the incident.

Pandit and Gill told reporters that the chief minister had assured that stern action would be taken against the attackers.
