Govt to allot Koliwada land to residents
Out of the 40 koliwadas in the Gaothan areas of mumbai, 36 koliwadas are on collector's lands.
Nagpur: The state government has decided to give collector’s lands at the koliwadas in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar to residents living at these spots for the past several years, revenue minister Chandrakant Patil said in the legislative assembly on Friday. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has refused to permit slum height in Mumbai to touch 18 feet. The current permit height is at 14 feet. Out of the 40 koliwadas in the Gaothan areas of mumbai, 36 koliwadas are on collector's lands.
BJP MLA Ashish Shelar had moved a calling-attention motion in the Assembly on the koliwada issue. The residents living in these koliwadas have been stationed here for several years.
Mr Shelar had demanded that these lands be allotted to the people residing there. According to Mr Patil, area surveys and demarcation of the koliwada land is ongoing. After completion of these projects, the government would allot the lands to the residents and their names would appear on the 7/12 extract.
Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azami demanded the construction of huts up to 18 feet be allowed for slum dwellers. However, Mr Fadnavis rejected the proposal and clarified that such a move could create an infrastructure mess.
