Mumbai: The Central Railway (CR) has suspended four officials in connection with the derailment of an inspection wagon between Kasara and Umbermali last Friday. However, investigation into the accident is still underway.

A CR official said that Umbermali deputy station superintendent Prashant Kumar, section controller north east A. Chakravarti, overhead equipment in-charge Sethi, and senior section engineer Santosh Kumar, had been suspended.

He said that though the investigation was underway, prima-facie, there seemed to be a lack of coordination among the railway staff including the station master and controller.

Confirming the development, the divisional railway manager of the Mumbai division, Sanjay Kumar Jain, said, “Yes, four officials have been put off duty pending enquiry. There was no breach of safety as far as passenger train movement is concerned as this was a planned block. We are committed to ensuring zero tolerance.”
