FDA seizes adulterated milk from tankers entering city

Milk worth more than Rs 5 lakh, which was found to be adulterated, was destroyed in Navi Mumbai.

He would remove about 100 to 200 ml of milk from each packet and refill it with tap water before sealing it with hot wax.

Mumbai: Recently the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted surprise checks on milk tankers entering Mumb-ai. At toll nakas  at Vashi, Airoli, Dahisar, LBS and Mulund, which are crucial entry points to the city, investigations were carried out on 227 tankers.

FDA checked 9,25,000 litres of milk for adulteration out of which around 19,250 litres milk was found to be adulterated.

Milk worth more than Rs 5 lakh, which was found to be adulterated, was destroyed in Navi Mumbai.

Joint Commissioner (Food) FDA Shailesh Adhav, said, “Acting on a tip off that the milk transported into the city was adulterated, we went on a surprise check of all the milk tankers entering the city.”

“From midnight we started stopping vans coming towards the city. Milk samples have been sent to a Navi Mumbai based laboratory for further investigation,” said Mr Adhav.
