Mumbai: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Saturday, a team of Special Protection Group (SPG) has arrived in the city to review the security and deployment of its men at vantage points in and around the Arabian Sea.

Mr Modi along with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will lay the foundation stone for the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial in the sea. According to senior state government officials, the security teams are in two minds whether the PM needs to sail all the way up to the actual site of memorial in the sea.

The Rs 3,600-crore memorial will come up on a rock of around 16 hectare in the middle of the Arabian Sea. The distance of the memorial is 2-km from Nariman Point, 3-km from Chowpatty at Charni Road and 1-km from Rajbhavan at Malabar Hill. “The SPG team has arrived in the city. They will carry out a survey of the area and take a final call,” said a senior state government official from the chief minister office (CMO).
