Police ensure smooth run for marathoners

Mumbai: With 15,000 policemen deployed along the Mumbai Marathon route from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Bandra, the Mumbai police ensured that the participants had a smooth run without any hitch. Senior police officers and security commandos were stationed at vantage points. Manoj Kumar Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (Zone 1) too was present on the ground checking security the measures near the Metro construction site. “Officers have been deployed at key points, where there are steep roads, and mishaps can take place.”

Pravinkumar Padwal, additional commissioner of police (south region) said it was their duty to look after the safety and security of Mumbaikars. “With more than 35,000 people participating in the event, the entire police force was on it.”

Policemen stood guard at various junctions and patrolled the streets at CSMT station, Hutatma chowk, Sundar Mahal junction, Air India junction, Mumbai Central railway station, Worli naka, Siddhivinayak temple junction, Shivaji Park and Mahim junction. “The event was successfully completed without any untoward incident,” said Mumbai police spokesperson Deepak Deoraj.
