Mumbai: Mumbai’s famed Kamala Nehru Park is all set to be opened in a new avatar on Thursday. The park is now equipped with a series of fresh surprises for the visitors.

Perched at the top of picturesque Malabar Hill, Kamala Nehru Park is among city’s best hunt for amusement and greatly popular among the kids because of a queer structure sculpted like a shoe. Known as Old Lady’s Shoe, it has made the park one of the most favourite places of city school children for playing.

The civic body has restored the Kamala Nehru Park along with the adjoining Hanging Garden, also known as Pherozeshah Mehta Garden.

To make them more visitor-friendly, the BMC has constructed a foot-over bridge that will connect both the gardens. This will help citizens visit both the gardens without having to cross the road for vehicular traffic. The civic body also beautified the iconic Old Lady’s Shoe.

The BMC has transformed the existing 408-metre stretch of the park towards the Girgaum chowpatty end into a viewing gallery, which will offer visitors a panoramic of the sea.

The garden will have three-canopy walkways. The BMC has also set up various themed gardens and a rainbow amphitheatre. The existing fountain has made way for two ponds – a lily pond and a fish pond. The civic body has installed theme-based drinking water fountains at the park. There will also be a tricolour floral arrangement at the base of the Ashoka Stambh.
