Police to hold Abu Salem's production warrant
The cops are also waiting to get a reply from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) so that Salem could be tried in this case.
Mumbai: The Delhi police on Friday gave written assurance to TADA court that production warrants issued against extradited gangster Abu Salem would not be executed until the prosecution gets this case added to the extradition treaty. The cops are also waiting to get a reply from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) so that Salem could be tried in this case.
The Terrorism and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court had called investigation officer Sameer Srivastava on the application filed by Salem. Salem in his application had requested the court to call for immediate explanation from Delhi police on the production warrants issued against him by a local court in Delhi in connection with a case registered under section 384 (extortion) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) at Lajpat Nagar police station. Salem's lawyer Sudeep Pasbola had contended before the court that this case is not part of the extradition order and hence Salem cannot be sent or produced in that court for trial.
