Expect better roads by 2019 monsoon'
Meanwhile, Mr Patil and the PWD have been facing flak for the pathetic condition of roads.
Mumbai: With the monsoon rains wreaking havoc in western Maharashtra and surrounding districts, the public works department (PWD) has found itself in an unenviable position due to the potholes that have come up on all major roads and highways under their jurisdiction. The PWD minister, Chandrakant Patil, has tried to diffuse the situation by assuring long-term solutions to the potholes.
“The work of road widening as well as concretisation is underway on Mumbai-Goa highway. These are genuine issues faced by the public and the state government is fully aware of them. But we have already said that this will be the last year. The work will be completed by March next year. So, these issues will be resolved,” said Mr Patil. He also said that work on Sion-Panvel highway is also underway. It will be repaired very soon.
