Police arrests TV actor for rash driving

The police said that the accused will be produced in court on July 22.

Mumbai: Television actor Siddharth Shukla of the serial Balika Vadhu fame was  arrested by Oshiwara police when a car driven by him allegedly rammed into four other vehicles  near Oshiwara signal on Saturday evening. No casualties were reported.

According to the police sources, the accident took place at 6.30 pm near Shreeji hotel in Oshiwara, when Shukla, who was driving a black BMW car, allegedly rammed into an Innova, and three other vehicles ahead. Shukla’s car then swerved on to the divider and hit a lamp post. Shukla and occupants of other vehicles suffered minor injuries, said police sources.

Shashikant Bhandare, police inspector (crime) of Oshiwara police station said, “A team has took him to the civic-run Cooper Hospital to conduct the medical tests.”

Mr Bhandare added, “It is not confirm whether Shukla was driving under alcohol influence.” The accident took place in the peak hours and hence caused major traffic snarls at the spot.

The police arrested him under section 279, 336, 337 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code that pertains to rash driving, act endangering life, causing hurt respectively, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. The police said that the accused will be produced in court on July 22.
