The department has also sought a status report on exemption of fees on differently abled students by October 9, 2017.

Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Monday observed that the Mumbai University (MU) results situation has gone out of control this year.  The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that, usually, on August 1 admissions of law colleges are completed, but this year the final year results for the Science, Commerce and Arts streams were yet to be announced. The court observed, “It happens every year, but this time situation has gone out of control”. The court has kept the matter for hearing on Tuesday and asked the petitioner to submit a copy of the petition to the state government and MU.

A division bench of Justice Anup Mohta and Justice Bharti Dangre was hearing a petition filed by three law students of the MU who had approached the Bombay high court, seeking action against the university over a delay in the declaration of final-year examination results.

Petitioners Sachin Pawar, Abhishek Bhat and Ravindra Pandey sought Rs 10 lakh compensation and alleged that due to the university’s new onscreen marking system, they had lost the chance to secure admissions in several national and international universities for the Masters of Law course, since the new academic sessions at most such universities have already begun. This has resulted in infringement of their fundamental rights and has caused them mental agony, they said.
