Few spells of rain in next 48 hours, says IMD
It was a wet Wednesday for Mumbaikars as the city witnessed the highest rainfall day in September in the last 10 years.
Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that during the next 48 hours, till 8pm on Saturday, there could be a few spells of rain or thunder showers with isolated heavy rains at one or two places in the city and suburbs. After witnessing heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday, the city experienced only intermittent light showers at a few places on Wednesday.
K.S. Hosalikar, deputy director general of western region, IMD, said, “During the next 48 hours, there could be a few spells of rain or thundershowers with isolated heavy rains at one or two places in the city and suburbs. While north Konkan, south Konkan, Marathwada, Vidarbha. and madhya Maharashtra will receive heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places.”
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s lifeline — suburban local trains that ran up to 20 minutes late on Tuesday and Wednesday, normalised on Thursday. Central railway’s chief spokesperson Sunil Udasi told The Asian Age, “The trains were on time. We ran our full strength today.”

According to IMD, its Santa Cruz observatory recorded 303 mm of rainfall over a period of 24 hours from 8.30 am to 8.30 am on September 19 and 20. Schools and colleges were shut on Wednesday as direction by the state government.
